Thanks to my high school friend, <a href=\"http:\/\/angelareneesimpson.com\/\"  target=\"_blank\">Angela Renee Simpson<\/a>\u2014no singing slouch in her own right\u2014I now know the name of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neaudition.org\/singers\/truss.htm\"  target=\"_blank\">countertenor Matthew Truss<\/a>, an &#8217;06 Boston Conservatory grad, and apparently one of the hottest new talents out.<\/p>\n<p>If, like me, you get to the opera about once a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kalpa_(time_unit)\"  target=\"_blank\"><em>kalpa<\/em><\/a>, or you confuse the word &#8220;countertenor&#8221; with &#8220;counterterrorist,&#8221; prepare to be stunned by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Yx6i8CB2SkA\"  target=\"_blank\">Mr. Truss&#8217;s rendition of &#8220;<\/a><span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Yx6i8CB2SkA\"  target=\"_blank\">Addio, addio miei sosprir,&#8221;<\/a> <\/span><span>from 18th century Bavarian composer Christoph Willibald Gluck&#8217;s o<\/span><span>pera, <em>Orfeo ed Euridice<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The video is from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.intermezzofoundation.org\/elardo.html\"  target=\"_blank\">the Intermezzo Foundation&#8217;s Elardo International Opera Competition<\/a> this past summer in Brussels, at which Truss won the $5,000 Jerry Hadley Award.
