{"id":1526,"date":"2008-09-26T08:55:55","date_gmt":"2008-09-26T12:55:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/harryallen.info\/?p=1526"},"modified":"2008-09-26T08:56:14","modified_gmt":"2008-09-26T12:56:14","slug":"the-mac-is-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/harryallen.info\/?p=1526","title":{"rendered":"The Mac is Back."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.impawards.com\/2008\/soul_men.html\"  target=\"_blank\" title=\"I know you both got soul.\"><img src=\"http:\/\/harryallen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/soul_men.jpg\" title=\"I know you both got soul.\" alt=\"I know you both got soul.\" align=\"middle\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a very strange detail, but ever since <a href=\"http:\/\/harryallen.info\/?p=1256\"  target=\"_blank\">Bernie Mac died<\/a>, I&#8217;ve been unable to watch reruns of his syndicated show.<\/p>\n<p>I distinctly remember sitting in front of the TV, the very first night after he&#8217;d died last month, as <em>The Bernie Mac Show<\/em> came on. I tried to watch it, you know, in honor of him and all, but found myself succumbing to this dreadful sense that what I was doing was kind of morbid and vulgar. It wasn&#8217;t a grief thing, as much as it was a sense that what I was doing was false.<\/p>\n<p>I hope this feeling goes away by November 7 when his final work, <em>Soul Men<\/em>\u2014that&#8217;s the one-sheet, above\u2014with Samuel L. Jackson and Isaac Hayes, hits theaters. (As we all know too well, Hayes died the day after Mac of an apparent stroke.)
