As reported by the Associated Press<\/a>, Ayman al-Zawahri, Osama bin-Laden’s No. 2 man, has released a video\u2014”al-Qaeda’s first response to Obama’s victory”\u2014in which he<\/p>\n

called the president-elect \u2014 along with secretaries of state Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice \u2014 “house Negroes.”<\/p>\n

\"Malcolm<\/a>Speaking in Arabic, al-Zawahri uses the term “abeed al-beit,” which literally translates as “house slaves.” But al-Qaida supplied English subtitles of his speech that included the translation as “house Negroes.”<\/p>\n

The message also includes old footage of speeches by Malcolm X, [right] in which he explains the term, saying black slaves who worked in their white masters’ house were more servile than those who worked in the fields. Malcolm X used the term to criticize black leaders he accused of not standing up to whites.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What’s interesting, to me, is the question of how Black<\/em> people would respond to this critique, those who would not be unduly offended by the mere notion of an al-Qaeda commentary on this recent historic election.<\/p>\n

That is, I’m suspecting most would be outraged by Obama’s name being in the mouth of al-Qaeda, not to mention the criticism of him, ungraciously offered.<\/p>\n

However, I also think many would agree with the \"Clarence<\/a>notion of a) some Black people being “house Negroes,” and b) some would even agree on al-Zawahri’s nomination of Powell and, certainly, Rice to this list.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the only question would be, how come he didn’t mention Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas, right, who typically<\/em> gets categorized by Black people as racially subservient, and in just this language?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
