{"id":6737,"date":"2010-02-01T20:26:06","date_gmt":"2010-02-02T01:26:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/harryallen.info\/?p=6737"},"modified":"2010-02-10T00:35:16","modified_gmt":"2010-02-10T05:35:16","slug":"vanity-fair-white-power-pictures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/harryallen.info\/?p=6737","title":{"rendered":"<i>Vanity Fair<\/i>: White Power Pictures."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/features\/2010\/03\/cover-girls-201003\"  target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6738\" title=\"cover-girls-1003-02\" src=\"http:\/\/harryallen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/cover-girls-1003-02.jpg\" alt=\"cover-girls-1003-02\" width=\"500\" height=\"247\" srcset=\"http:\/\/harryallen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/cover-girls-1003-02.jpg 600w, http:\/\/harryallen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/cover-girls-1003-02-300x148.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The world gets smaller and smaller, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/\"  target=\"_blank\"><em>Vanity Fair<\/em><\/a>&#8216;s gets even tinier, still: Their new, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/features\/2010\/03\/cover-girls-201003\"  target=\"_blank\">March 2010 Hollywood cover<\/a>, above, shot by Annie Leibovitz, features a bevy of SPF50-dependent, semi-translucent beauties.<\/p>\n<p>They are, l-r, Abbie Cornish, Kristen Stewart, Carey Mulligan, Amanda Seyfried, Rebecca Hall, Mia Wasikowska, Emma Stone, Evan Rachel Wood, and Anna Kendrick.<\/p>\n<p>While this isn&#8217;t unexpected\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/harryallen.info\/?p=59\"  target=\"_blank\">I&#8217;ve written, here, on <em>Media Assassin<\/em>, before, about <em>VF<\/em>&#8216;s glaringly white Tinseltown special issues<\/a>\u2014it is, again, a tad doddering, and way out-of-touch.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/harryallen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/cover-girls-bts-1003-we06.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6743\" title=\"cover-girls-bts-1003-we06\" src=\"http:\/\/harryallen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/cover-girls-bts-1003-we06-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"cover-girls-bts-1003-we06\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"http:\/\/harryallen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/cover-girls-bts-1003-we06-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/harryallen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/cover-girls-bts-1003-we06.jpg 653w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>It&#8217;s almost, like, given the kind of talent available and doing amazing work today, if you do a magazine cover of nine young women in film, right, and they&#8217;re all white, it&#8217;s just because you want it white. You&#8217;re making, intentionally or not, a racial power statement.<\/p>\n<p>I wonder: While discussing Haiti over lunch, did any of these actors say, &#8220;Wow: This sure is one Caucazoid photo shoot&#8221;? Better yet, did anyone refuse to be part of something which so genteely hangs out the NO COLOREDS sign?<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know if these women have thought about this, but, just like global warming, every bit of race adds up, and if you&#8217;re not part of the solution, you&#8217;re part of the problem.
