Every post delights with inquisitive, nimble writing and typically dreamy images, and his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chroniclebooks.com\/index\/main,book-info\/store,books\/products_id,7888\/\"  target=\"_blank\"><em>The BLDGBLOG Book<\/em><\/a>\u2014which compiles dozens of his best pieces\u2014makes the whole enterprise fit on your shelf.<\/p>\n<p>Now, in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.storefrontnews.org\/exhib_dete.php?exID=155\"  target=\"_blank\">a new exhibit<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.storefrontnews.org\/index.php\"  target=\"_blank\">Storefront for Art and Architecture<\/a> in New York City, Manaugh and co-curator Nicola Twilley (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ediblegeography.com\/\" ><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Edible Geography<\/span><\/a>) turn their focus on another underaddressed, little-grapsed element of the human landscape. As states the page for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.storefrontnews.org\/exhib_dete.php?exID=155\"  target=\"_blank\"><em>Landscapes of Quarantine<\/em><\/a><strong><\/strong>, which opens March 10th,<em><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>At its most basic, quarantine is a strategy of separation and containment\u2014the creation of a hygienic boundary between two or more things, for the purpose of protecting one from exposure to the other. It is a spatial response to suspicion, threat, and uncertainty. From Chernobyl\u2019s Zone of Exclusion and the artificial quarantine islands of the New York archipelago to camp beds set up to house HIV-positive Haitian refugees detained at Guant\u00e1namo and the modified Airstream trailer from within which Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and Michael Collins once waved at President Nixon [above], the landscapes of quarantine are various, mutable, and often unexpected.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Geoff Manaugh is a contributing editor at <em>Wired UK<\/em> and former senior editor of <em>Dwell<\/em> magazine.
