I probably get asked this question more than any other one. “Harry,” a friend will say, “I’d like to dress my kids in FLDS clothing, but the group is so cut off from the outside world, I don’t know where to begin looking. What should I do?”<\/p>\n

My answer? Go to their web site<\/a>. Because of overwhelming demand for their modest, Western prairie settler-styled ankle-length dresses and rugged boys work shirts\u2014due to the visibility created in the April raid by Texas authorities on the Yearning for Zion Ranch<\/a>\u2014the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is now selling a kids line, online.<\/p>\n

\"Kids<\/a>Watch out, Sean Jean. Where “urban-themed” designers are offering flash ‘n dash, FLDS Dress<\/a>, right, harkens back to a simpler age with timeless appeal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“We’re used to our clothing not being popular,” said Maggie Jessop, 44, an FLDS member who helps coordinate the sewing efforts. “(But) we’ve had many, many people say that they would like to have their children be more modest and have expressed interest in our modest lifestyle.”<\/p>\n

“There were a lot of people that asked, ‘Where can I purchase those clothes?’ ” said Cynthia Martinez, spokeswoman for Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, which represents 48 of the mothers.<\/p>\n

Paul Murphy, spokesman for the Utah Attorney General’s Office, finds the FLDS women’s fashion offerings quite smart.<\/p>\n

“It’s very clever,” he said. “With all the issues that are going on, most of the media attention has been about the way they dress and the way they wear their hair.<\/p>\n

“I give them credit for going where the interest is.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
