For now, congratulations to President Barack Obama on his decisive victory. The country voted for change with both feet. I wish for only the best for the new President. Rest assured, he will have the backbone to stand up to some of the wild “liberal” policies of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid on business issues. A centre-left business agenda with compromises on business taxes, unionization (Free Choice Act) and trade (let NAFTA live) would be in the best interest of the one thing we all want–good jobs for more people. I’m looking forward to seeing how he appoints his brain trust (http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2008/fortune/0806/gallery.obamas_advisors.fortune/),
I believe Obama may select former Treasury Secretary Larry Summer for the position once again (http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2008/fortune/0806/gallery.obamas_advisors.fortune/4.html). In the situation the U.S. is currently in, you need someone who is very smart to understand the issues clearly. Plus, his previous experience in the post will serve him greatly to avoid the steep learning curve.

in perth, western australia a group of 10 stopped our work day and stood around a computer and watched with joy as P-E Obama gave his acceptance speech to the people of Chicago, the US and the world.
sending thoughts of hope so all may know that half way around the world the significance of this victory inspires us too.

I got to watch the election results come in on TV over here surrounded by wondrous Nepalis, optimistic Americans and Europeans saying things like, “it’s looking good for him, right?” and “The world has only one hope – Obama.”
The Nepalis couldn’t believe that “a black man” was going to be US president. “George Bush, no more?” some asked. “George Bush Siddiyo! (finished)” I replied.
Watching the acceptance speech at the embassy, everyone jumped up and cheered when Obama thanked “all of you working and serving overseas.”
What a great day; glad to be able to correspond with you, Harry, at this point in history.
