Rachel True…is 41?

Rachel True…how you do what you do?

Forgive me: I don’t mean to put a sister’s business out in the street, but I have never been as shocked to find out a person’s age as I was during a recent chance lookup of actor Rachel True (Half & Half), right, on Wikipedia.

According to Wiki, True was born on November 15, 1966. This makes her 41 years old.

I’m sorry, but I find this absolutely mind-boggling. My wife and I became real fans of True’s gentle little farce, which ran from September 2002 to May 2006 on the now defunct UPN network. True, with Essence Atkins, played one of two San Francisco-based stepsisters, navigating missteps in careers, relationships, with their mothers, and each other. True, who I’d argue looked no older than 25 in the role—if that—played her character, Mona, with genuine pluck; the one relatively normal human being in a cast of kooks.

The CraftAt the time, I’d not recalled True’s turn as the token Black witch in 1996’s The Craft, right, with Neve Campbell. The women portrayed members of a teenaged coven, but True’s birthdate means that, at the time of the film’s release, she was nearing 30.

Aye yi yi! Black is beautiful, and it sure don’t crack, but Ms. True takes the beneficiary properties of the melanocyte into a freakish new hypersphere. I’ve heard of people having the “youth gene.” Her chromosome must be made of nothing but. Hey: More power to her and long may she reign. I wait with anticipation for the day this good woman looks old enough to play an actual grownup.

Wow, I’d like to buy whatever moisturizer she’s using.

But to me, she’ll always be Mary Jane from “Half-Baked.” 🙂

Similarly, Stacey Dash is 42 and was still playing her Clueless character on the sitcom in 1999 when she was 33.

She is dope in half-baked & I loved the relationship she and Chapelle rendered in the movie: a funny, real, down-to-earth one that many of us can relate to. I have to admit that’s one of the reasons I love that movie so much–
