Plushing-Out Your Sims…or the Crushing Irony of Helping Your Computer Game Characters Live Better Than You Do.

“I’m playing myself…”

Thanks to the hot design Apartment Therapy blog for this tip: The Sims 2 is about to release an expansion pack that’ll enable you to drench the little ne’er-do-wells in IKEA.

According to Electronic Arts, distributor for The Sims series, The Sims 2 IKEA Home Stuff (June 24; $19.95) will enable you to

• Turn your Sims’ living room into a haven of comfort and relaxation with a plush Ektorp sofa, a unique Expedit TV unit, a complementing Leksvik coffee table, and chic décor, like the Vanna mirror.

• Create a bold, vibrant, and revitalizing bedroom with a new Malm bed, matching chest of drawers, a shapely Storm floor lamp and a bright IKEA PS rug.

• Indulge your Sims with an office that is sure to promote order and productivity with its elegant Vika Hyttan desk, inspiring Kila desk lamp, bold Helmer drawer unit, and Lack zigzag wallshelf.

The Sims is the most successful PC game of all time, with over 100 million copies sold since its debut in 2000, to the tune of $4 billion.

But here’s where my brain goes slightly left: With this upcoming IKEA pack, and the passion many users have for creating their own Sims movies—like the “Pina Colada Song” video we covered, or this one of Swedish pop crooner Darin’s “Why Does It Rain?”—all I really want for Christmas is someone to replicate IKEA’s “Not A Mistake” ad (“START THE CAR!!! START THE CAR!!), Sims 2 style.
