Flame on: TRON: Legacy light cycle gets the blazes outta here
For the recent Comic-Con, Disney released light cycle footage, above, from the upcoming TRON: Legacy, the 2010 sequel to 1982’s geek classic, TRON.
So why am I not feeling the new stuff?
Take a look for yourself, below. First, the original trailer, then their visual effects test.

Big fan of the original. Looks like the new one has a darker edge- what’s up with those ‘madface’ helmets ?
I think this shows a lot of promise. Feels refreshing in contrast to recent films like Transformers and every shaky cam chase scene of late, to have long cuts and a clear sense of where the players are.
Joseph Kosinski’s previous work in commercials (Halo, Gears of War 1 & 2, etc.) have great cinematic qualities, I look forward to seeing what he does with a feature film.
Can’t say why you’re not feeling it. Keep in mind the video is over a year old though, they first showed this at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con.
i dunno man… i think it looks ok… just hope it dont get raped like indiana jones, star wars, etc etc.
Much of the original TRON has an unwavering mathematical precision that’s exhilarating – the new one doesn’t seem to, going for a more “realistic” approach. For example, the labyrinthine 3 “good” cyclists vs. 3 “bad” cyclist battle in the original wasn’t even fully storyboarded – the task was almost completely left to their FX computer to plot out and the result was a total surprise.
